Vanguard Program

Our vanguard program is designed to meet the educational needs of the gifted and talented students through a differentiated curriculum which offers a greater depth and complexity. Roosevelt's vanguard program includes project-based learning dedicated to serving the gifted/talented learners.

Who is gifted?

"Gifted and talented children are those identified by professionally qualified persons who by virtue of outstanding abilities are capable of high performance. These are children who require differentiated educational programs and/or services beyond those normally provided by the regular school program in order to realize their contribution to self and society" (Marland, 1972).

Gifted learners may exhibit some of the following characteristics:

  • is keenly observant

  • has complex, advanced ideas

  • is an expert in some area
    infers and connects concepts

  • exhibits deep, complex understanding

  • is curious

  • enjoys learning

  • masters concepts quickly

  • may not be motivated by grades
